Vermont becomes latest state to outlaw child marriage, raising eligibility age to 18

There are 7 states with zero minimum age requirement whatsoever when all exemptions are considered.

Not exactly understanding what an “exemption” is for marrying a 5 year old but apparently even California thinks there must be one.

That was my question. In what situation would someone need to get married under the age of 16? Hell, people don't need to get married until they're 18 and even then most of those marriages/relationships don't work out for obvious reasons. IMO kids/that age just hasn't developed or experienced enough to make wise, long-term decisions. On top of that, kids can be tricked/manipulated so easily. I just really don't get why it's even a thing.
