It didn't take years, it took decades. And it took tons of money. To reverse it, you need a serious plan, tons of money injected into infrastructure, lots of time, and a workforce willing to work for wages that probably aren't very attractive.

There would have to be perpetual bipartisan support among multiple presidents, senates, and congressional groups.

Tell me again how this is ever going to happen?

While it's of course valueable in many ways to bring back American manufacturing, the country as a whole isn't smart enough to understand the benefits, not patient enough to make it happen, and not flexible enough on taxation.

Americans want cheap shit, shipped to their door the next morning, while they're working from home on their laptop; they don't want to work in factories themselves and they sure as hell don't want to pay for social services for those who do work in factories.
