Victims tied up during 'traumatic' home invasion in Abbotsford, B.C.

You're not wrong about any of those things. I fully agree on every single thing you've mentioned as a worry. But open gun ownership isn't the answer. Keep in mind that what you see on the news is a small percentage of what's happening in our community. The scary stuff is what's reported on because that's what makes the news. The odds that this will happen to you are very, very small - and even smaller if you/your family are not involved in any kind of gang or crime activity. Be up to date with your security systems, stay cognizant and alert, and keep living your life. Living in a state of distress and fear doesn't help anyone - not you and not your loved ones.

Take this as just my $0.02, but if it helps, my perspective comes from my career: I work very closely with police and am apprised of major crime every day at work. I know what it's like to get stuck in the loop of thinking that the world is a shitty place and just getting shittier, but again: perspective. Most people just want to live and let live.
