In a couple of weeks I'll be seeing my girlfriend for the first time since we went long distance eight months ago. A month after she left, she began getting worried she was putting on weight and started going to the gym, so in a move of solidarity I also started lifting and have completely fallen in love with it. It's been great to achieve these little personal victories and I'm just generally feeling a lot better about myself. I've missed a couple of days here and there but have been going pretty much daily since then, and I can tell it's motivated her to keep up with it too.

Anyway, on Friday I went to after work drinks with some people from the office, and I guess this was the first time some of them had seen me in non-business wear. As the drinks started flowing I was getting more and more compliments from the ladies on how strong I was looking and it was doing wonders for my ego. I left before my head got too big, but it was just nice to get compliments about something I never had before. Now I'm actually kind of excited for my girlfriend's reaction when she sees me for the first time in a while (outside a video call screen).
