Why Vincent Van Gogh Is The Painter This Generation Talks About?: A Psychological Analysis. This is my first blog. Any criticism or suggestion will be appreciated.

With respect, I disagree. Vincent’s art, while absolutely brilliant, and a breathtakingly beautiful display of raw emotion, it was only discovered, in my opinion, because of the story of his life (or rather his death.) Many of his friends and peers in the art community were doing expressionist works, arguably with even greater artistic prowess than he was.

Had he gone on living and recovered from his depression, maybe he’d still have garnered notoriety, but his tragic story captured the hearts and minds of the people by associating that turmoil with the contrasting message on display in his work. His art was a celebration of life, despite his depression. I don’t see sadness or despair when I look at Starry Night, or anything from his Olive Groves collection. I see his love for the beauty of simple, everyday life. Every painting he made wasn’t so much an expression of his pain as it was his struggle against it. It was his therapy.
