Virginia GOP funds anti-Semitic ad targeting Democratic incumbent

This is all stupid. The ad itself, the feigned "outrage" from the Post, and the overheated reactions to it.

First off, I don't like the ad, but there's nothing "blatantly anti-semitic" about it. Using the shadows slider in PhotoShop to make anyone look sinister is a standard move in political advertising, just like the flyers you get where the opponent's picture is rendered in a washed-out black and white. It's a common bit of graphic design for political advertising.

The part of the ad that I don't like is the "stacks of coins" thing. THAT's what makes the ad smarmy. But, again, this is not the first political ad to put dollar-signs in someone's eyes, superimpose stacks of dirty-looking dollar bills, or put them against a background of belching smokestacks. All these things are mother's milk to political advertising firms.
