Vit is not as Good as it seems.

I will elaborate a bit on the Manipal side of things, to help the kids:

  1. 5-10 Mbps speed WiFi. 30gb per month. This is tied to your account. You can use computer labs to download large things, they have around 80-200 mbps and, since you don't login, no data cap.

  2. No weird ass rules. Freedom is amazing. Only requirement is no half pants in the academic areas. Anything else, like track pants and jeans are allowed. PDA is common, no one cares. Just don't be over enthusiastic.

  3. It is technically still a small town, but it is a small town of several old established colleges like MIT and KMC, along with numerous other colleges. High fees, so big spenders are guaranteed, therefore there are malls, various types of restaurants, and most importantly for me, Dominos and Pizza Hut delivers to campus lol.

Manipal is in fact holds the record for most Zomato orders every day. (Would welcome a fact check on this, have forgotten the exact record).

  1. Language barrier is non existent. 60% of students are North Indian. Almost all profs can speak Hindi, although the medium of instruction is English. All localities have learnt it too, like shop owners and auto drivers. Kannadigas in general are welcoming to outsiders.

  2. Very high fees, no doubt. 24+ lakhs for the entire 4 years. However, the amounts you sign up for, in the beginning are what you pay. No sudden increases in academic fees. Though, hostel fees may increase 10k every 2-3 years.

  3. Really good hostels. There are very few triple rooms (less than 50). Majority of rooms are double and single. Allotment is based on your preference and GPA, similar to rank based counselling. Food is pretty good either. You have to be in hostels by 11 though. But you can choose to move out into nearby apartments after the first year and no rules in that case.

  4. Ranking system is pretty transparent. Have never heard a case of people feeling they got more/less that what they deserved.

  5. Same story in Placements. Around 25 companies that offer CTCs more than 10 LPA, mostly coding branches.

Rest of them (around 125, total 150) are around 6-10 range, with mass recruiters going down to 3.6LPA.
