Volkswagen/Audi Timing Chain Lawsuit - how will this affect me?

I'm assuming your car has the 2.0l 4cyl turbo. A timing chain is what drives / connects the camshafts of your car, they are what open and close the valves of the combustion chamber. As for the jolt your experiencing it's hard to say it could be something fairly minor like a vacuum leak, or it could be something more serious. Start by pulling the codes off of the ECU (engine control unit) using an obd scanner or vag com, once you have the codes you can look them up on Google to see what the code means. Dont risk damage to the valve train because the repair will probably end up costing more than the car is worth, that engine is interference fit meaning if something happens where the timing is wrong, like if the timing belt or timing chain snaps or the tensioner fails, the pistons will impact the valves bending them causing the engine to stop running entirely. Due to your lack of car knowledge I recommend going to an audi specialist or a dealer to get this issue figured out asap. Ask them to check the condition of the chain tensioner and timing belt. And check your maintenance records if you have any.

Sorry for the paragraph. I hope it helps.
