This chip is going to make shitloads of money.

First of all, 600mm2 has already been proven to be highly profitable in the consumer space. 815 is just 30% more. You add disable some cores, and watch yields skyrocket. It's simply math.

With 12FFN a close derivative of 16FF, there's no risk of getting disastrous yields. V100 can easily reach yields of 30% when 2 out of 42 SMs are disabled.

Furthermore, this chip is perfect for Google data centers. After all, before you can do inference (with TPUs), you need training. For that, a TPU is useless. You need the FP16 and FP32. The more the better. Google will eat these things up, just like many companies were eating up P100z

Finally, Volta has a lot of really important architectural changes in the SM. It's a major departure from the Pascal SM. It will do compute much better.

AMD should be especially afraid of that part: they're going to be challenged by a compute that's finally back at the level of Fermi.
