I'm a vendor and this is more or less how it goes. bonus if you spoof MACs at router and computer (and presumably the multiple VM's your using). can use iptables to do all kinds of neat things on routers to make it even tougher to digitially "connect the dots".

if you want to be literaly impossible to catch,find someplace that overlooks a spot that has public wifi (or just crack somebodys). ideally somethign with lots and lots of windows, like an huge apt complex or office building. use yagi or parabolic dish to connect to wifi. set up computer as hotspot, then plug a high powered router which is set to function as repeater. then connect to the repeater network from wherever you are working from. use an external antenna + ethernet cable so you cn disable wifi and use wired.

if feds trying to catch you in real time, cn actually determine about where you're accessing from by throttling speeds of router + basic trigonometry. if you use a place with lots of windows vs something like a single person home, makes it much more difficult to determine where you are even if they have manage to find "angle" and approx dinstance from where you are accessing. by repeating signal they have to not only find where the antenna + comp is, they have to redo the whole process on that second router.

you can also use vpn to remote in, but that requires an internet connect on 2nd computer + trusting a vpn.

the setup is fun because you can really tailor it for your needs + georgraphy. for nearby access a POE mini router + cheap tablet (eth--> usb adapter too) will work. but if you can find a place on a hill, can access wifi as far as 1 mile away if its a clear path, repeat it, then grab that signal from somewhere a mile in a different direction.
