Wages and cost of rent in Pittsburgh

I live in Southside and my rent is $800 plus utilities. I love living in Southside but I promise if it wasn’t for my girlfriend I wouldn’t be able to afford this place alone. It’s ridiculous we’re at a time in all of our lives where it’s almost impossible to afford a place to live and simultaneously have enough money to pay for food, internet, cellphones, and a few other minor things. I personally have an obamaphone while my girlfriend has an iPhone and I do not mind at all, but what I do mind is not even having a car. The perk of living in Southside is you don’t really need a car, but there are times where I could really use one and I plan on getting one once we can afford it. The price of living has increased significantly while the wages being paid have stagnated and I know I’m not alone in this conclusion, how I wish I was born 50 years ago.
