I wanted to ask what the the attitude is towards birthdays or celebrating birthdays in Islam. Do you celebrate it? Why or why not?

Our local and well respected sheikh made it very clear.

No where in Islam does it say a birthday in itself, and acknowledgment of said birthday is haram, at all. It is not haram or forbidden.

The problem is WHAT do you do for your or your childs birthday? (Birthdays should only be for kids really, I find adults who care about their birthdays to be cringey)

A simple gathering of family and food? Or birthday cakes and blowing candles which is literally straight up from Paganism.

The problem is the average person celebrates birthdays in very Unislamic manners. Nothing wrong with giving your children a gift and having family over for food and halal fun.
