The war on "science" top or /r/ pics, absolutely disgusts me

War on science? No. There is no war on science and anyone can see that. Science is knowledge, knowledge is power, and those who retain power are determined to restrict science to official science. Official science today is corporate science and government science, which have pretty much intersected. Any science not emanating from corporate or government sources has been relegated to "fringe". And so-called "fringe science" is where most of the interesting science happens, because it's free from the usual constraints placed on government and corporate science.

The ridiculously framed "war on science" is fake. The so-called war is fought in the media as if it boils down to those who believe in official science vs those who believe in the bible; those who believe in official science of how humankind came to be (evolution) vs those who believe that a God created us (creationism); those who believe the official science of immunization vs those who do not believe in science; those who believe the official science of GMO foods vs those who do not believe in science; those who believe the official science of climate change vs those who do not believe in science; those who believe the official science of the Moon landing vs those who don't believe in science. These are all false dichotomies.

One can believe in science and not believe in official science. In fact, more people who don't believe in official science tend to know more about science than people who believe in it, because when you believe in official science you are placing your trust in the authority of the mass media, corporations, and government. In my opinion, people who question official science tend to be informed about science in all its varieties than those who don't.

One of my favourite examples is the official science of the Big Bang. I've seen some gatekeepers of the Big Bang theory refer to anyone who questions or rejects the Big Bang theory as "creationists". This is absurd! consider that the Big Bang was first formulated by a Belgian Jesuit priest named George Lemaitre who wanted to reconcile science with Aquinas' dictum of creatio ex nihilo, or creation from nothing. We've merely replaced one creation myth for another, and yet questioning the official science of the Big Bang leads to shouts of "Creationist!".

It's a farce. The war is on any one of us questioning official science.
