Watch Guy

Reformatted This happened many years ago, when I was around 12. It was after school on a normal summer day and we were a few blocks away outside the cvs. We had just bought some candy, And so we decided it would be a good idea to sit by our bikes and eat. The bike rank was outside a liquor store, but we weren't too worried, because that part of town had a very low crime rate.

We were eating our snacks, and I noticed an old man. He was around 50-60, hunched over a bit, and had a baseball cap with a bud lite logo. He was pacing around, quickly glancing at us every once in a while. Eventually he walked over to us and stood right in front of us. He made this wired hand motion, that looked like limp jazz hands. We chuckled, and repeated the motion to him. We expected him to just leave after this. But then he asked us,"Do you boys have any watches for sale?"

We told him no, and hopped on our bikes and left, because we both got a weird feeling.

My theory to this day is that he was expecting to meet there for a drug deal, but the dealer was late. Remember in mission impossible when tom cruise has to ask the guy on the bench if he could spare a match? I think it's like that. He was pacing because he was confused to why there were kids at the location. I think he must have seen our backpacks, and walked to us. Maybe the weird hand gesture was a form of silent communication, subtly asking if we were there for what he thought we were there for. Asking if we had any watches for sale was the secret code, or activation method.

Does anyone have any idea of what happened? Is the phrase,"do you have any watches for sale" a know phrase? I don't think it is, because I did a few searches and didn't come up with anything.
