Watch John Oliver grill Dustin Hoffman about sexual harassment allegations

Even if he did do it., for real though, Hoffman's point stands, it was forty years ago.

At that long of a time frame, there's really only like a half dozen crime I'm not willing to forgive at that length: murder, rape, molestation, child porn, and I can't even think of two more.

People change. In highschool and early college, I was a total fucking idiot who thought that Black people shouldn't get tuition just because they're black, and I was against affirmative action. I literally argued with Black people that "can't we move on from slavery? It was 400 years ago." You could look at that and say, "Wow, that guy is a racist," and, you know what? My views were kinda racist.

But that was 17 years ago, and a few years after all that shit, I started realizing what a dumb fuck I was to hold those kind of views and I changed my mind entirely on them.

Should John Oliver say that "Well, you're still a racist," because of my opinions back then? He could, but he'd be wrong about me. Because that's not who I am.

Hoffman could have been a creepy fuck who made women feel creeped out back in the seventies, but, fuck man, it was forty fucking years ago. If he's still doing it, then okay, let's have that discussion, but it's entirely possible that some time after that happened he realized how wrong that behavior was and course-corrected into a reasonable person. The last woman he could have made feel uncomfortable could have been in Nineteen fucking seventy-nine. It's possible, and to say that he should be summarily excommunicated is bullshit.
