That’s a tad hyperbolic. What is your data source indicating that the MTTF of the part is barely beyond warranty? My anecdotes are only as valuable as your anecdotes, but my Samsung washer is about 10 years old and my parents’ more like 20 years old, without issue.

Dissimilar metals in a design like this carries some risk, but presumably under normal operation galvanic corrosion shouldn’t be a huge issue since that part of the assembly should be dry and sealed away from the contents of the drum.

People seem to forget the nightmare that was those garbage topload agitators. When they weren’t destroying your clothes from agitation or rust, the belt on the motor was snapping or slipping.
