I watched my patients die of poverty for 40 years. It’s time for single-payer

"unlike the posh quiet suburbs of North America."

Ya, totally quiet. A father of three was shot in the face 3 times a few days ago, a block away from my house.

My Jeep has been broken into 3 times in the past year.

Our 2016 Honda Civic has had an attempted theft now twice with one of the times resulting in clear anger causing them to slash the tires, break the windows and key the car.

We constantly have mail theft in our neighborhood as well as an overwhelming malaise as a result of wandering criminals from the ghetto a few miles away.

I live in one of the nicest areas for 20 miles.. It's absolutely beautiful here. We have million dollar homes all around me.

Ya, quiet suburb. I live in the GOOD neighborhood.

I grew up in the bad part of town and there were murders frequently.. shootings daily.. drug dealers on every corner.. prostitutes on the street at night.. that was my life.. Don't believe me? Look up Tully & King, in East Side San Jose, and how it was in the 80s. That's where I slept every single night... was an awesome neighborhood to grow up in. I was the only white kid and I was beaten, daily, just for being white.

Ever had your shoes stolen off your feet while three giant black dudes kicked you in your stomach, chest, and face? It's pretty demeaning.

So ya, pardon me for laughing at your particular view of our nation but I think a lot of your perspective may be a bit off base.
