‘Watchmen’ Creator Alan Moore: Adults Loving Superhero Movies Is ‘Infantile’ and Can Be a ‘Precursor to Fascism’

When headlines affect public opinion more than the content of the article, this headline especially failed to offer Alan Moore's nuanced opinion any justice. It purposely takes two separate statements from two different contexts and conjoins them to form a manufactured context instead.

My thoughts while reading the article:

"Ah, I see his opinion is probably more the escapism that typical security-satisfying superhero stories provide that allows fascism to fester comfortably out of sight. Instead of pouring feelings of powerlessness into acting to better their situation, many pour their feelings into ignoring reality. When good people do nothing, bad people are allowed to do literally anything they want."

"To avoid allowing this escapism in superhero movies, it must ultimately be human actions which save the day in a realistic and actionable way instead of utilizing superhero or otherwise unlikely (e.g., being rich) powers. We must nurture the feeling and truth that we are capable of changing our own circumstances instead of waiting for godlike powers to handle everything for us like an infant would their parent."

"The infantilism however has nothing to do with comics because that is just an art form. Superhero stories can be in any other art form and still be infantile. Oh, I see he loves comics as a medium and already understands this. That was actually an interesting opinion. It's furthered my thought processes on entertainment as a whole."

"This headline is awful!"
