Retaliator Sovereign
Fulfilling the need for a moderately priced command ship, the Sovereign represents the final word in cost effective mobile early warning and control system ships (MEWACS). Created with the blessing of Aegis Dynamics, this aftermarket add on kit is replaces the two torpedo bays with a comprehensive scanning suite and self-contained pressurized Command Information Center.
The included Hammerli-Bersa AG-117 Scanner Array fits into the front bay with minimal modification to the ship. Reliable in the harshest conditions, the scanner array performs equally as well searching for lost persons amidst hurricane force winds and rain as it is watching deep space for intruding criminals that dare threaten the well being of the honest Imperial resident.
Raw sensor data represents only half of the battle. Distilling the noise into the few key important facts that commanders need to effectively make decisions quickly and efficiently can mean the difference success or disaster. The centerpiece of the Command Information Module is the large holographic Spherical Situation Display, allowing a complete view of all happenings occurring around the ship with a single glance. Further supplementing this, each wall panel is equipped with a large form monitor that can be configured to show additional information at the commander’s preference, whether it be a software constructed image of the Retaliator’s surrounding’s or target specific information to be fed to friendly ships in the area.
NOTES: * Should slot in as a step between F7C-R Genesis SWACS ships. Against the tracker, the Sovereign should have much better endurance and sensor range. The tracker's advantage should be lower cost and better ability to defend itself, as it is still a dogfighter. Against the Genesis, the Sovereign should trade off endurance and sensor range for lower total cost of ownership.
The project was originally named Overseer. The name was later changed to Sovereign at the request of the Aegis Dynamics company president to help emphasize a less aggressive image and to highlight the peaceful uses of the iconic bomber.
MEWACS is a marketing distinction from the Genesis SWACS. Implication being that the Sovereign was also intended to operate within atmospherics conditions as well as being space borne.
