Weakened Merkel wins fourth term: Nationalist Earthquake Rocks Germany as AfD vote share soars

Federalization of the EU really is a bad thing for the US in the long run. The reason for this is because of the massive political and cultural difference between the EU and the US. If you go take a jump over to some European forums or subreddits, you'll see calls to sanction the US and force us to bow to Climate Change demands or to pressure us to sign an international ban on guns(this has been attempted by Europe before). Not to mention their globalization/world government ambitions. The only reason none of these idea's gain traction is because the EU doesn't have enough influence or cohesion to properly pressure the US(or other nations) economically or militarily.

The US can also create partnerships with individual nations and parties that more closely align with US interests and ideals, preventing the EU from coming together to stand against US interests. A Federalized EU working as a single block is a future threat to US interests, and would result in relations deteriorating rapidly between the US and the EU (unless the right wing has been wiped out in the US by that point, which i find unlikely). Next thing you know, the US is just as concerned about the EU on a geo-political scale as we are with China.

Problem is most people look at these things in the short term, 5-10 years at most. Long term a federalized EU is bad for the US, given their current politics and culture. This is also assuming a semi-best case for the EU, where it hasn't had a massive culture shift to sharia over the next 50-100 years (which, if immigration rates stay the same or rise and indigenous birth rates continue to fall, is a very realistic possibility in democratic countries where every immigrant, legal or "refugee", is enfranchised (given the right to vote)). An Islam-ified EU is a whole different animal, and i can't even hypothesize what that would look like. Though in that scenario i can imagine that most of the Eastern European nations would split off.
