The party of boot-licking basically started when traditional libertarian ideas were hammered out of people's heads with decades and decades of fierce capitalist propaganda. Traditional ideas like:

• wage labor is theft, robs workers of their dignity and autonomy, and is barely better than chattel

• bosses and landlords are goldbricking leeches.

• making your riches from capital gains is usury

These ideas are as American as apple pie. Lincoln's and his Republican Party held the position that that wage labor is only different from chattel in that it's temporary. Adam Smith considered landlords parasites. etc etc
