Why do wedding photo albums cost so much?

I’m a hobby photographer and I have a lot of experience with digital, 35mm, and 120 medium format. Yes film is expensive (e.g. a typical lab in a HCOL city might charge $30 to develop 24-36exposures for 35mm and $30 to develop 12 medium format exposures) but imo film wedding photographers often over charge. Once you get the film developed and scanned (high res scanning is also pricey but if they have their own equipment, which they in all likelihood do since this is their business, it shouldn’t be a continuous cost) and uploaded as a digitally scanned file, it is no different than a digital photo, speaking from an editing / putting into a album perspective.

We had a photographer quote $200 per roll of film which I found to be very expensive. I honestly think many photographers capitalize on the fact that film is still pretty niche for the wider audience and most people don’t know the ins and outs of it.

So yes, film * is * more expensive, but not what many film wedding photographers charge. They are capitalizing on a niche art form, which, more power to them, but imo can be a little much.
