Wednesday Megathread - Ask Parents Anything - October 19, 2022

My sister in law homeschools my nephews. Her oldest was in public school for a year & a half and she withdrew him from school to homeschool him when they suggested speech therapy for his speech impediment (also she didn’t like sitting in the carpool line). The oldest is now 10 years old and still has a speech impediment. The middle child (8) can not read or write. She says he is only interested in math so that is the only thing she teaches him. The youngest (6) has received barely any schooling and also has a speech impediment. I am 100% NOT shaming people who homeschool their children. If that’s what you choose then that’s amazing. I’m only concerned about my nephews’ education, or lack thereof. I’m worried about their brain development and how far behind they’ll be when they inevitably get put into public/private school. When I’ve brought up putting them in public school, she shoots it down & mentions getting a tutor, but she has yet to get one. What should I do? Do I bring it up again or just let it be?
