Wednesday Morning Discussion - Why does fashion / style / clothing matter to you?

Fashion matters to me because its helped me a lot. Not only did it help me look better with some compliments here and there but it also made me more confident. Knowing that I look great made me feel great so it made my slow transition from pretty shy kid to a more outgoing person easier. Basically whether I'm being lazy and just walk out of the house in a tee or shorts or a full blown fit I just feel good cause I'm happy with how I can work with my clothes, plus it lets me get creative and try new looks. Plus hey it also boosted my fitness dedication. I used to be chubby, I've spent a lot of my shit on good clothes so I'm not about to get either too fat or skinny again and have to revamp my wardrobe. Again.

As a physical object it does in a way help identify what I am. Fashion is just as much of a hobby as say comic book collecting or photography. Unlike those however fashion is more recognizable when you first meet someone. When you pass by someone you never really know what they're capable of, they could be really good with cars, music, dancing whatever and you really wouldn't know it with a glance. If I pass by someone with a good outfit I immediately think this guy can dress well so I kinda like that, being known at least as the guy who can dress well

On impressions to be honest, I decided to dress better for myself. After high school I wanted to do what I could to improve myself and fashion for myself followed after fitness. Impressing others came as a perk.

Thanks to MFA I do care to an extent of what other people around me wear. At first I found it difficult to understand why people deliberately wear something too big for them and even more offensive things in terms of fashion but i just accepted the fact that at the end of the day, some people jist don't really care. Some clothes however need to be wiped from existence, like squared toe shoes.

Honestly at the very least I just wish a love for fashion as a whole could just be accepted for what it is, without the stereotypical bs. I can accept the fact people prefer their graphic tees but the gay or hipster name drops in an effort to try to prove they're more masculine because "real men don't need to give a shit on how they look" excuse is pathetic.
