Weekly Complaint Thread - 14 February 2019

Got to experience some of that good old fashion prejudice I had been missing since moving here a month ago from the US.

Was at a hard off making my final decisions on what I want and don’t want when this guy approached me. We had made eye contact a few other times in different aisles, but I didn’t think much of it. My Japanese isn’t great, but I got the gist of what he was saying. He pretty much said something like “You’re putting your hands in your pockets a lot aren’t you?” I answered “hai?”, and pulled my phone out of the pocket I just put it in.

He just walked off and I didn’t see him again. It seemed like he just left. I don’t think he was an employee either unless he was maybe a plain clothes security? I don’t know.

Admittedly I was in my pockets a lot, but I was comparing prices as I found stuff I was interested in. I also tend to wear “streetwear” so I guess I might look suspicious in a town on the outskirts of Tokyo. At first I was a little shocked, but after I was just kind of a mix of mad he would assume that, and laughing that it happened.
