[Weekly Critique and Self-Promotion Thread] Post Here If You'd Like to Share Your Writing

Genre: Fantasy (kinda dark, trigger warning for domestic violence)

Word count: 2100

Feedback desired: Preferably on how it is written rather than what is written, although I wouldn't mind a bit of both. I'm pretty new to writing, and so instead of setting off with my idea for a fantasy novel, I'm trying to write short stories involving the backstory of some of the characters. So the content is more for my own benefit to get a better understanding of the character, and this whole thing is primarily an exercise to help me get accustomed to writing and to find a style that works for me. Any help appreciated!
