[Weekly Critique and Self-Promotion Thread] Post Here If You'd Like to Share Your Writing

Title: "Invasive: The First Wave"

Feedback Request: General feedback. Most of my writing consists of emails, spreadsheet functions and SQL code, so I'm writing practice pieces like this to practice storytelling, and to find my balance as a writer. I struggle with maintaining a consistent tone, and describing the world without disrupting the flow of the story. I also have a tough time knowing how much to reveal to the reader and how quickly. I want to maintain suspense, but don't want to starve the reader. Feedback on how I can improve in these areas would be especially welcome. Any other commentary would be great.
