Weekly General Discussion Thread

Hi everyone!

I am a beginner this year and have been hitting my local trails pretty hard (west Michigan). I have been really enjoying it and I think I am improving quickly. There isn’t anything super difficult around me, but I have tried all of the black diamond trails I can and have been able to get through them with some effort.

In a few weeks, I’ll be going up to Copper Harbor for my first real downhill mountain biking experience. I am kind of nervous that I won’t have enough skills/endurance by then so I am looking for advice!

Any tips besides the obvious going out and practicing? I am trying to get out at least 3 times a week every week until we get up there, and usually go for a minimum of 10 miles on the trails. I also lift and ride my road bike on my off days. However, I am pretty sure that the trails I’ve been riding are nothing compared to copper harbor and I’m worried I’m going to really struggle in a more advanced terrain. Is there anything else I should add to my routine to help me build my skills?

Also, my bike is a hardtail... is this going to be a big issue up there or can it be done? My fiancé has a full suspension and he seems to be less sore after our rides. Is it worth renting a full suspension while we’re up there?

Lastly, if anyone is in copper harbor the last week of July and is looking to meet up, let me know! I’d love to make some friends who share this hobby of ours!

Thanks in advance. :)
