Weekly Hiring Questions Thread - November 20

  1. Never wear a suit during the hiring process. Police officers are often poorly paid and usually can't afford nice clothing. Wearing a suit makes you look like some fancy pants who is rubbing it in. Dress casual, so it doesn't seem like you are trying to show off.

  2. Drugs are rarely, if ever, a disqualification. Departments are looking for people with experience, so often the more drugs you have used the more competitive you will be. How will some square who has never used meth be able to recognize the signs of someone who is using? Its also important to have recent drug usage, as the drugs are changing every day. Someone who is knowledgeable about current strains of pot will be much more hire-able then someone who hasn't used in 15 years.

  3. The polygraph is junk science, and everyone knows that, even the polygrapher. If you make jokes about it being a load of crap, during your poly, they usually appreciate it as you are "in on the joke" and will pass you as a courtesy. The usually appreciate it if you lie during it, also, to give them a challenge.
