ioasuka - The Princess Thief (2hr mix)
Been trying to work up the guts to share this for a while. This is 1/2 retrospective of my first set I played for fun to my coworkers & I on hour meal breaks post-event/pre-strike at a venue I worked at (1hr:22m & onward is what I had time to play). I revisited it later to try to assign myself homework since I'm still paying back student debt & saving immensely for Pyramind. The objectives here were to mix in key throughout the wheel, try to fit many people's favourite subgenres in, practice with a new controller mapping on Traktor's remix decks (2 track decks & 2 remix decks, with decks A&C and B&D coupled with each other and inversive level knobs), and of course, to pay tribute to the artists whose works have saved my sanity. These are all live mashups done in 1 shot, I was hoping to learn how to improvise quickly and also do some stamina training (hence the long mix).
My DJ & producer friends make intricate mashups seem like child's play, so I'm trying to train hard and work my way up to their levels of skill. I'd love input on the quality of the mashups, as well as the transitions (even though tbh the transitions were an afterthought to the crazy mashups). I'd love insight on how to mitigate some of the mix-mud (especially during tracks 10 and 11), as I'm really only familiar with how to use a DAW's parametric EQ and multi band compression to trim/notch out conflicting sounds. Best example: The 2nd-to-last track has a problematic trance-y kick in it that I really wanted to remove, but couldn't figure out how to remove live in my clips.
Notable artists inside: Medasin, Diversa, CloZee, The Presets & Hermitude, and many other new contenders & underdogs
