Weekly Newbie Thread - Post questions about joining the AF here & here only - week of April 27

Hi, I'm a 20 year old male interesting in joining the Air Force. I was medically discharged from Coast Guard boot camp a month ago for a pre-existing injury to my right knee(it was all disclosed at MEPS). I was sent home and went for an MRI, which came back okay. Since then I've been back in the gym working out for 2-3 hours a day and doing rehab on my knee. I would love to go back to the Coast Guard and finish, but a few of my friends and relatives are advising against it and suggested the Air Force instead. I think it's because they're prior service Air Force lol. I plan on going to meet with a recruiter next week and ask him more in depth questions and explain the whole situation. I was told by the medical officers at Cape May that I would have to wait 6 months to reenlist in any branch of service, but I still want to get the ball rolling so hopefully there would be less time from when I enlist to when I ship off. Until then there's a few questions I'd like to ask:

What's your MOS? Do you enjoy it and what do you like the most about it?

What are the Air Force stations like? In the Coast Guard we filled out our dream sheet week 05 for our orders and 90% got a pretty nice station on the coast(go figure about getting stationed on the coast) or a cutter.

I'm interesting in doing something along the lines of intelligence or aviation, in the Coast Guard they were two separate rates. I've looked into the Air Force jobs, but there is so many that interest me in those fields that I can't tell which are the one I want to do. Does anyone have anymore information I can read up on those fields or recommend in the Air Force?

I was told by a medical officer at Cape May that the Air Force has a community college you can attend while active duty in the Air Force, is this true and do you, or do you know anyone that's doing it?

Is anyone on here prior service that switched to the Air Force? If so what was the transition like? I was talking with my dad whom is prior service Air Force about Coast Guard basic training and he couldn't believe how different it was.

These are just some things I'd like to get an opinion on before I talk to a recruiter. I know many people are going to question my sudden switch since I do want to be in the Coast Guard, but I feel like both have great opportunities and the Air Force rates aren't as broad as the Coast Guard's. Not to mention the community college the Air Force offers. Before I enlisted in the Coast Guard I was split between the Coast Guard and the Air Force. It wasn't until a good friend of mine wanted to join the Coast Guard that I jolted towards it and we did the buddy system. Now he's stationed in Honolulu, so I'm happy for him.

I hope I was thorough and detailed enough with my post. I look forward to reading y'all's input, good or bad. I apologize if I misspelled anything or miss worded anything as I am posting this from mobile and tried to proofread it to the best of my ability. Thank you all for your time!
