Weekly Newbie Thread - Post questions about joining the AF or what a job is like here & here only - week of August 28

So I went in to see an Air Force recruiter off the street.

I was interested in OTS, specifically the Security Forces Officer, and mentioned that, and the recruiter very visibly and quickly lost interest in talking to me as he said he can only deal with enlisted; alright that makes sense.

But I did ask him a few questions, mainly about the difficulty in becoming an officer because I've heard it's ultra competitive, and he said: "Yeah man, if you don't have a STEM degree with great grades, it probably won't happen." So I have a Criminal Justice degree, so that was a little upsetting.

...but, looking at the Air Force website for Security Forces Officer it says:

"Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree with specialization in one of the following: sociology, criminology, police administration, criminal justice or a related area"

So, a STEM degree wouldn't help me there; in fact, my degree is the best degree for the role?

I know you can put in for a specific job in the Air Force during initial application, so having a degree in CJ would help me out rather than hurt me applying specifically for Security Forces, right?

I'm not really sure, as the recruiter basically just said that to me.
