The Weekly No Question is Dumb Thread- May 12, 2016

I recently had my hair trimmed and the salon was trying to push me to purchase Biolage Fiberstrong. Since I didn't find much info if this was a good product for my hair, I told them no. They then tried to push me to do some treatment with the Fiberstrong, but I also said no because I couldn't find much info. Has anyone used anything from Biolage? Or should I opt for using Original Sprout shampoo and conditioner for my hair?

It's because my poor hair is sick of me :( I'm a bit at my wit's end with my hair. I have type 2c/3a thick hair that's very dry and coarse and has recently started to fall out (though I'm sure it's mostly because I'm neglecting my vitamins, which is very bad).

I live in Bahrain. The temperature is almost always at 25C + and it can be pretty humid, especially during the nights. Our water isn't the best either and, unfortunately, we are unable to afford a water softener and purifier :(

My hair manages to stay very rough and dry, especially by my second day. I wonder if it just means I should change the products I use?

This is a current list of my products - thank you for the help and sorry this list looks long (I added the ingredients for convenience, but I added them at the end of the post to make this easier to read):

For my Shower Products & Routine:

  • I love the squish and condish method for my hair. Usually I'm a very good girl by brushing my hair only when I have conditioner in it and with a very wide tooth comb. Sometimes I'm very bad and I use this detangler brush when my hair is filled with conditioner; I usually do this on days when I want to put my hair in a ponytail or up in a bun. When I'm done washing my hair I plop it in a soft tshirt or sometimes a microfiber towel if I have no tshirt to spare. I also try to sleep on a silk pillow but since I only have the one case I have some days where I don't have the case on hand. I have tried pineappling my hair before and sleeping with a shirt on my head but I mostly wake up in neck pain or with a migraine, so I've stopped doing them even though they give me crazy amazing second and third day curls :(

  • Natural Forever Shampoo for Dry Hair: What I notice: NF is a line of products made locally by a famous herbalist in my country. Although I mostly cowash my hair given how damaged and dry it is I've found this shampoo to be very gentle on my hair when I use it compared to most shampoos that I've used in my life. As a result I find myself using it maybe once a week or once every two weeks because of how light and gentle it feels when cleaning my hair.

Natural Forever Conditioner: *What I notice:** This conditioner feels gentle on my hair. I like to usually add it in my squish to condish routine or sometimes for my cowash. My hair usually feels very soft and healthy, but there are a few days where it feels very average.

*Ashley Shine Keratin Spa Hair Milk: sadly I can't find the ingredients listed on the product. I sometimes use this as a cowash instead of my NF conditioner.

Kerastase Discipline Fondant Fluidealiste: *What I notice:** I do notice that this makes my frizz less but there is something about it that makes me not use it often. I can't really place my finger on it. I think it just makes my hair feel unnatural in a way, if that makes sense?

Kerastase Bain Fluidealiste: *What I notice:** This product also makes me feel uneasy, for a reason I wish I could describe. As a result, I use this as my deep cleanser for those days where my scalp and my hair feel like they can't breathe, or otherwise I'll use this product maybe twice in a month at most.

Loreal Professional Mythic Oil Masque: *What I notice:** This product is sometimes good but it doesn't always feel very amazing or standout. I use it for my deep conditioning days. I used to deep condition once a week but I've been very slack recently in doing this. A very awesome redditor suggested adding oil to my conditioner and I've combined this with pure coconut oil.

Natural Forever Herbal Oil: *What I notice:** I love this oil a lot. I like adding it to my cowash or at the end of my squish routine because I feel like it really cleans my hair and scalp, and I love that it makes it smell very fresh. The owner of NF suggested I use this as my deep oil treatment instead of coconut oil or coconut oil with conditioner.

How I maintain my hair after the shower or on no shower days: *Daily serum: something that I made by combining coconut oil, pure shea butter and almond oil. I add this to my hair when it is wet and damp.

Original Sprout Miracle Detangler: *What I notice:** I love this stuff. It is absolutely magic. The only problem is I don't know how to wield this magic. On some days I can make my hair look gorgeous like Myriam Fares. On other days I don't know what I do wrong but I make Mad Madam Mim look like a cover girl with her hair, so I have to opt for a very messy and ugly bun.

Palmer's Hair Silk with Vitamins A, D & E plus Protein: *What I notice:** I know some people who use this as a gel but I haven't because this stuff feels very thick, hard and very gunky when you wash it out. I use this on days when I have my hair done up in a professional bun (so not very often) and I want to maintain the crazy, fly-away baby hair.
