Weekly Questions Thread #2019-08

I honestly don’t understand it too much but from what I’ve gathered:

  • People that rush in are annoyed that they get targeted by all the monsters because others are out in the hall. Like if initiative is rolled and they go first followed by multiple bad guys, they get mad that only they are being targeted even though they chose to rush in like that.

  • Ranged characters are upset because they can’t stay clumped or outside the room and freely shoot through multiple layers of allies and enemies. I implemented the rule where creatures provide cover for others as well as having a chance to hit the cover if you miss the target. I felt like I kind of had to do this because before they were all just blocking the door with a tank while shooting arrows and throwing spells into the room. Everybody has been supportive of this rule though so I don’t get the sentiment.

  • There seems to be a general unhappiness in the game involving doors period. They feel like I make them spend 15 minutes to open a door every time they approach one, even though all they do is listen at it and spend the remaining time arguing about what to do or not do or I we apecific rules. So when combat starts they feel like it’s taken them forever to move into the room.

I’m not sure what else. I just feel tired and a little over it. It started out as a lot of fun but I never wanted to be dungeon master anyway. Nobody else would do it. Everything that goes wrong is my fault and I constantly have to walk back decisions and encounters because they don’t like the outcome. If I try and stick to my guns they get upset and we don’t play for long periods of time. This is like the most thankless job ever. And it really does feel like a job at this point, but not a fun one or even one where you get paid.
