I watched Dead Leaves over the week. Dead Leaves is a 50 minute long movie about a pair of amnesiacs who wake up, name themselves, go on a crime spree, and end up being sentenced to the space prison, Dead Leaves, and that's all in the first 10 minutes. The story goes from there as you learn about who they are, and watch their exploits while enjoying the crazy ride. The anime is fast paced and weird, and this post downplays how insane the anime is, but I don't want to give any specific examples, because they're funny and it's short. It has a ton of adult jokes and a blunt writing style, and the gunfights are frantic, but not incomprehensible. The animation is smooth and stylish, having a sort of animated manga style, that I'd compare to the FLCL episode 5 gunfight between Haruko and Amarao, and Panty and Stocking, but cranked up to eleven. Probably the weakest part is that despite all of the crazy stuff that surrounds the main story, the main story is not that crazy itself. It's fairly straightforward, unlike FLCL, which takes repeated viewings to understand. It's a fun time and I'd recommend it to everyone, especially those who love FLCL for its weirdness (/u/hughsurname, get on that), but it won't hit quite the same mark for those who love it for the intricate, symbolism and metaphor laced writing.

I also finally made it through episode 25 of Gintana, and episode 25 was good, or at least comparatively good. Like, the first 24 episodes were nothing but cliche stories with half assed morals and almost no jokes, but episode 25 was an over the top parody of battle shōnen where they fought over beef. There was even a straight up cameo of a character from a well known anime, which was far better than the half assed references they were doing before, One Park instead of One Piece was lame and made no sense. It gives me hope that there will be more of that, but then episode 26 was straight back to the shitty writing of the previous two seasons, so maybe that was just a fluke. That's the bad thing about hope. Sometimes it's not warranted, and you're just clinging to false delusions. I was really hoping there would be no change, so I could just drop it and never see it again, but now that I've seen the anime deliver some kind of quality, I have to keep watching for a while longer. If by episode 48 there hasn't been another good episode, I'm dropping it.
