Banner Saga 2

It's been a long two years, but boy, has it been so worth the wait.

A quick recap for the uninformed: Banner Saga (the first) was a Nordic-inspired strategy game with a light overworld element a-la Oregon Trail. The game centered on humans and the Carl, a group of horned giants. When the game starts, the gods are dead, the sun has stopped, and its a struggle to survive against an ancient enemy called the Dredge, a race of stone warriors that seem to be bent only on destruction of this fragile world.

Enter Banner Saga 2, and SPOILER ALERT for those who don't want to read.

Again, SPOILER ALERT, because I don't know how to black-out things on mobile.

So BS2, is a continuation of the previous game, and I can't really talk about its praises without referencing the previous game and entering spoiler territory. After the death of either Rook or Alette, the game starts with your humble little caravan fleeing the Dredge once again. Through the help of a colorful cast of characters, your journey will be fraught with excitement, danger, and maybe some backstabbing or two. Honestly, this game is just a straight improvement. Combat is basically the same, but the overworld now has your clansmen do more for you, like helping gather food. And the story itself hasn't lost one beat. The stakes are raised even higher it feels, and you learn more about the lore, like I said.

All in all, save for a few gripes with the story's resolution in this chapter, I'd say BS2 is definitely a great game.

Do yourself a favor and buy this if you haven't already, or get the first one and see how you like than one, as its crucial to the story and is a necessary starting point.
