Weekly Recommendation Thread: July 26, 2019

Trying to get back into reading - it has been far too long. I love fantasy (LOTR is what got me into reading as a kid) and want to read The Stormlight Archive and The Wheel of Time.

What do you recommend I start with first? I had started Way of Kings a few years back and got 300 pages in, but life got in the way and could not finish it, so I'd start again. I don't remember much, but I did love the world building at the time.

I am leaning towards Stormlight because the thought of following a novel series as it releases is exciting and I haven't done so since Harry Potter. On the other hand, I would love to be able to read a series from start to finish.

General items I am looking for outside of character progression:

World Building (comes with the territory, of course, but I love in depth world building) The unexpected (ala Red Wedding, Ned Stark) Revelations Political Intrigue A good blend of conflicted characters, but there can be fantasy archetypes in there

I am not incredibly well versed in fantasy novels yet, but trying to be. If there is another series that might be better suited, feel free to recommend that as well! Open to anything.
