Weekly Skeptics Discussion - March 18, 2018

Not really. There are plenty of stocks that don't issue dividends, and holding those is also statistically better than actively trading them. Maybe more to the point, there are cryptos that do pay what amounts to dividends with PoS and the ability to invest in nodes.

It depends on which currency. Holding gold when it was a currency would have been a great move. In a world where currencies exist under the explicit domain and control of specific countries, I don't think comparing the likely market behavior of bitcoin to other existing currencies is a fair one, and is much like comparing currencies to gold. Not to say bitcoin and gold are the same, just to say that they're equally different from currency. Holding USD would have been a really great move if there weren't government forces intentionally trying to make holding USD a bad move.
