Weight loss

Do you mean new to this community or keto in general.

Ketogenic eating itself is a different pattern of eating than can be used to lose, maintain, or gain weight. It's distinguishing characteristic is its big effect on blood chemistry itself that can do much more than just counting calories will. This can be an advantage for weight control (loss or gain), insulin management, seizure control, and more. It's disadvantage is that it goes against the traditional way many people (including doctors) have been taught what is a healthy way to eat. Many items posted here deal with questions about the diet, support for those who follow it, and sometimes references to noteworthy articles about keto's growth in understanding or popularity.

This subreddit is pretty open to all contributors. Standard reddit etiquette applies (no sharing private info, no offensive remarks). Additionally, since body changes are a long term commitment many folks will stay on the subreddit for a long time and see what are essentially the same questions posted over and over again. Such questions are often answered in the FAQ or can easily be found by searching the subreddit. With that said, there is a lot of information in both of these so it's natural folks have questions, but when asking them you're more likely to get useful answers by being specific.

Despite the community support, folks don't really like intermittent failure posts ("Oh my gosh, I've eaten a spaghetti pizza and cupcake buffet, what do I do?") because the answer is simply: keep calm and keto on. You've eaten it, now just prepare for some changes in the body chemistry, but go back to doing the ketogenic patterns of eating and that's about all. Questions are often asked about the "keto flu" that happens when your electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) are out of balance; this will likely happen so be prepared for it. It's not the end of the world either, but it's a disadvantage that's well discussed already, so read up on it.

Otherwise, congrats on starting this journey , and welcome
