Is it weird if I mix and match various fantasy stock races together into a single race?

So, somewhere very early on have someone just declare that ALL supernatural creatures from human myth are twisted stories about the single race of the Fey.

Yeah I was thinking something along those lines. So I probably should have clarified, my setting does not take place on Earth. The Fey are not a hidden or mythological race, they are simply another group of cultures that humans interact with sometimes.

However, a "plot twist" is that this unnamed world is actually the various "Lands of Faerie" as described in multiple Earth folklore stories (such as Tír na nÓg of Irish folklore or Svartalfheim of Norse myth). The Fey had interdimensional travel hundreds of thousands of years ago, which they used to raid other worlds and bring back loot and slaves. Humanity isn't even native to this world, but are actually the descendants of those slaves from Earth. Absolutely no one realizes this because the information was lost to time. And on Earth, their historical interaction with the Fey basically brought about all the various fairy tales of the world.

The bit of information is actually pretty irrelevant to the overall plot as a whole though and just background info for now. I kind of like the idea of exploring it later (i.e. someone manages to reconnect the two worlds in the modern era), but I have actually done nothing with it so far. So maybe I'm overthinking things.
