Obviously, your goal in going to college should to be able to develop your skills in a specific field to get a job. Unless your literally rich enough to not have to work for a living, spending tens of thousands of dollars just to "widen you knowledge" is stupid.
I'm pretty sure people who major in astronomy go in with a specific goal to get into the field, not just for learning for learning's sake. Sociology is also usefull if your going into social work/non-profits/research etc.
This whole "college makes you a well rounded person" always struck me as BS, so many of the comp sci students literally didn't give a fuck about the compulsary humanities classes, I literally had to take russian lit classes which were a total waste of time and money, holy shit.
