Welt.de (German newspaper) Interview with Bernie (put through translator)

PART 3

Question: On which stances do you think do you and pope Francis agree upon, based in a political and social perspective?

Sanders: I think the reason why I have been invited to this conference, is that many points the Pope makes, are similiar to mine. I'm a big fan of the Pontifex, even though we disagree on certain issues – For example when it comes to marriage euqality. But i belive the pope is a charismatic figure, who contributes to raising the awareness to the people that there is a massive transfer/misbalance of wealth which we can see in all over the world.

Question: You have certainly encountered some polemic regarding your visit in the vatican. Do you think you have the Endorsement of the Vatican for your presidential campaign?

Sanders: No, I don't think that. The Vatican hasn't anything to do with my campaign. And the Conference isn't a political event either.

Question: Regarding your presidential campaign, how do you feel about it at the moment?

Sanders: We are lving trough a wonderful time. I notice that thousand of people are switching to our side. I am determined to win the nomination and to face Trump in the general election.

Question: You got a lot of young people backing you up. How are you doing with the black vote?

Sanders: We already have half of the african american electorate on our side. But there is still a lot of work to do. I am sure that we will overcome any future obstacles/dificulties.

Question: Your very strong opponent is Hillary Clinton. Do you believ you have a chance in beating her?

Sanders: I believe that, yes! the results of the last Caucuses and primaries have been really encouraging to us. We are doing really well. I will win the nomination.

Question: If you will face Trump in the general election, do you believe most americans will gather behind you?

Sanders: I am convinced they will. I look at every poll in possible match ups between me and Trump abd they give me courage.I am certain that will win the race for the white house against him.

Question: As a socialist, isn't it embarrasing/intimidating to go to the vatican?

Sanders: I don't think so. I can see that the vatican is adressing issues of women and homosexuals in our modern world. The popoe wants to get rid of social injustice. And on this issues i completely agree with him.
