Went to a Car Dealership Happy and Excited to Look At a Car With My Wife...Left Angry

Sounds like you were better composed than me. I have trouble staying calm with car dealers; I have no patience for someone smiling and claiming to be on "my side" when we both know they're lying through their teeth.

It gets to me even with the little things. The last car I bought I was trying to talk them down just a little more, like a couple hundred. He insisted there was no way to go any lower. Well I see you have a $150 Documentation Fee. So there's $150 right there we can knock off.

"Oh no, that's REQUIRED."

Well, no, not really. It's 'required' because you've decided to require it. There's no law saying it's required. It's a bogus fee made up out of thin air and it can be waived just the same.

"Even our owner paid the Documentation Fee when he buys his cars. We can't waive that fee. And actually $150 is on the low end. If you look around you'll find most places charge a lot more for their Documentation Fees."

Actually, as of a few years ago $150 is the MAXIMUM allowable by state law. You're charging the MAXIMUM for a contrived fee.

"I'm not so sure about that..."

I am. It's a state law. It's also a state law you're supposed to disclose that fee up front in your listings and advertisements, which you didn't do, so the fee is illegal anyway.

"Hey man... I'm on your side here."

No. NO. When you look me in the eye and lie right to me you're definitely NOT on my side.

I'm sure there's good, honest car salesmen in the world. Maybe one day I'll meet one. Until then, you're the enemy as far as I'm concerned.
