Went to my first AA meeting

AA meetings (or really any recovery meetings) can be so hit or miss. I’ve been going for one for about a month. First time, it rocked, the speaker rocked - he “had what I wanted,” amazing story of going from rags to riches as he recovered. He was a circulating speaker, I really wish I got his number.

The next 2 weeks were sad, sad, sad. People telling horrible stories of being totally wrecked and never really recovering, only stopping drinking while still being seriously screwed.

I almost didn’t come back because the 12 Steps barely resonate anyways as someone who mainly uses SMART. But then last week, they had a speaker who killed it. He totally was like “we did the Steps very different but it still worked” and he had really inspiring story.

So it’s really up and down. I mentioned I use SMART, sometimes they have the same issues with getting derailed or it just being depressing. Ride it out though, after a month or so, I’m already watching some people get better with me. Now that’s inspiring!
