This is the first in my series of redesigning the state flags of the constituent states that formed the Confederate States of America (CSA). The design principle is as follows; the battle flag in the canton above 7 vertical bars representing the 7 original states to illegally secede - South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas - forming one third of the triband.

The colours for this West Virginia redesign came from the current coat of arms.
