What do I do about this required religious adventure??

First, let me say that I understand your misgivings and sympathize. Secondly, I feel like you're being intentionally obstinate because you don't want to be flexible at all. Buddhist scouts are not excluded and do not believe in a god in any traditional western sense.

I think there are plenty of ways that your family can loosely meet all the required points of this requirement within the confines of your own personal belief structure. Moral discussions with your family and how that ties into scouting and everyday life, discussions on reverence and tolerance of others, quiet reflection, etc. would all satisfy requirements 1, 2, and 4 in my view.

I'd look at it more as Duty to your Personal Belief System, rather than getting hung up on the God part.
