What am I meant to do in this situation? Graduating and going to uni

Here are some options:

  1. Defer for a year and try to get a job instead and save up a bit of money. It might even help to cement the idea that the course is the one you really want to do (or not). This might mean that you can become eligible for youth allowance later too. (not sure on current rules, but you used to be able to work for a certain amount of time, earning above a certain amount and that could make you eligible if you previously weren't.

Honestly you'll be one of the youngest students there if you go next year, deferring for a year won't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. (i'm considering going back to uni at 32!)

  1. Sounds like your parents are kind and are able to drop you off and pick you up. I know that what you've described sounds like a long day but it is possible. Plus depending on your course you may not have to attend uni every day. You could use the extra time that you spend at uni to develop good study habits at the library!

  2. Take your parents up on their offer of paying rent on a place for a while. Try your best to get a job to support yourself as soon as you can and thank them later :). A sharehouse would be the cheapest option. However since you'll only be 17 they might have to sign the lease on your behalf.

  3. The above but hustle some money somehow (airtasker, babysitting, dog walking, mowing lawns etc).
