What am I missing here? Can anyone help me understand the decision in building the new bypass south of the city instead of the north?

Dude I already fucking have posted the picture of both routes. One route would take damn near an hour to get from balgonie to number 1 west and the other route wouldn't be any slower than it currently is. Not 1 single person would take the north route to go to number 1...not 1 person. https://i.imgur.com/eE155lu.jpg here is the link so you can see it again. Please for the love of god tell me that you don't actually think the north route would be faster. It just literally can't be.

Look at the little text box that says "Alternate Bypass Route", from the point where it touches the map to the number 1 is a 10-15 minute drive. Expanding on that we can see that just that extra drive from highway 11 to highway 1 west is around 20 minutes. That's about the time it takes to get from white city to highway 1 west. Just that little north-south piece of the north bypass would be longer than the current route straight through victoria.

The south bypass might not be faster than the current route necessarily, but it would only be 5 minutes slower at the most since it's freeway speeds the whole way instead of victoria speed. The south route is 25km at highway speed whereas the current route is 19km at city speed so it sure as hell isn't any noticable difference. The north route is 5 km shorter between balgonie and tower road, but then you have to add an extra 21 to connect highway 11 to highway 1 west, then add an extra 25 to connect from the 46 at tower road to highway 11, this is a grand total of 41km longer than the current route and 36km longer than the south route. Not even someone as dumb as you would take that route to get to number 1 west from number 1 east.

  • Current: 19km
  • South: 25km
  • North: 60km

And the trucking issue isn't some sort of argument, it's a cut and dry fact that the amount of trucks going to the industrial area is way smaller than the amount of trucks going through the city. You also seem to have this idea that city trucks and highway trucks are the same thing which they aren't. And you also don't seem to understand that trucks doing city dropoffs do so almost exclusively at night when the traffic is minimal. The bypass isn't for city trucks or dropoffs, it's for through traffic and the truckers who go into the industrial area aren't highway truckers. You have absolutely no understanding of the difference between the two.

Do some more research.
