What is an opinion that would get you a lot hate?

I don't understand the logic of vegetarians or vegans. Something my Mum has said before about this, is that if it wasn't for the systematic breeding and slaughtering of animals for their resources, they'd be extinct. It may not be the best outcome, but think about it, if we didn't use cows for meat and milk, and horses for riding, what reason would there be to keep them alive?

And another thing, for those that argue it'd help the environment, it simply wouldn't. Animals produce methane, which is a greenhouse gas. Letting them reproduce would create more greenhouse gas and speed up global warming. So not only does using animal resources keep them alive in the world, it also slows down global warming.

Am I wrong about this? I daren't use it in an argument against a vegetarian or vegan, but I can't help but think it makes sense.
