What annoys the fuck out of you?

Nah. I think it's pretty apt. But how about Crossfit? Anime? Dystopia Rising? "Pro" Wrestling?

Think of any activity that draws rabid idiots, and then think of not doing it.  Lets use anime. That will be fun. And I kind of like anime.

So lets say, for this exercise, you don't like anime. That's cool. Good for you. However, Weeabob over here is a huge fan of anime and really thinks you would be too if you gave it a chance - the fact that you don't like it obviously means you just haven't really taken the time to try it!

Weeabob tries and tries to convince you and your friends to come watch Maho Tsukai Tai, because he knows that will convert you. After all your refusals, he starts digging for other ways to push it on you. He petitions a change to the Pledge of Allegiance, injecting an acknowledgment to 'the world's greatest artists.' He adds "SUPER KAWAII DESU" to all your dollar bills. He integrates it into your daily life, not content with it being just central to his. Why?

On the other side we have Tsunterry, who really hates Weeabob's tolerance of Gainax and Netflix. Those bastards ruined anime by westernizing it! And that Evangelion? Worst. Ending. EVAR. Netflix is a false studio, and Gainax was just a distributor! Tsunterry sends out a team to take down the Netflix data center.

Weeabob has control of one of the major US political parties and uses his sway over the Weeaboo Masses of the US to stir hatred for Tsunterry and the Nihonjin. Now you can't even say you dislike Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, for fear that a Weeaboo will think you're a Nihonjin and treat you like shit. And Fatsu over there is Nihonjin, but he still says his praise to Gainax so that the Weeaboos don't find out and hurt him.

So the stage is set and it's no longer about whether anime is worth watching - now they have you arguing about which anime is best. They confront you, demanding an answer, and you reply "I'm not really into anime." Now you're attacking their values! They start shunning you because you don't like anime, pass laws saying you can't hold a government job without swearing in on a stack of Evangelion DVDs and affirming your love of Gainax.

But you know there are things that actually matter, and anime isn't one of them. You want to get involved in the community and make a difference. You want to be on city council so you can make your city a better place to live, fight poverty, feed the poor, shelter the homeless, make it beautiful, inspire entrepreneurs to bring jobs to your city. You want to stop people from being discriminated against based on their skin color, or sexual orientation, or which anime they like (or if they like none, which should also be an acceptable option!).

But you can't. Because you don't really care about the Otaku Argument. You're what they've termed a Gaijin, someone who just doesn't care about anime. Both groups hate the shit out of you. You don't even necessarily think anime is bad in and of itself, maybe it's just not for you. But the way people act about it, that's pretty evil. Bombing data centers, murdering people for selling End of Evangelion, flying planes into buildings in protest of the government that significes Gaijin (but we're a Weeaboo Nation!) ideals.

You see atrocities committed against children in the name of anime. At birth, Weeaboo parents have girls eyes reshaped to be bigger and rounder. You read a news article about a 6 month old baby who died because the mother insisted on not nursing him, but feeding him strictly a diet of seaweed soup. You meet a 16 year old kid who can barely speak English, and injects really bad Japanese into his sentences, because his parents were allowed to keep him out of school and homeschool him. He got a proper education on how to behave just like a real Weeaboo. He wears nothing but crisp white button up shirts, black slacks, keeps his head down, and readily accepts his role as the lesser gender.

And you think, "sweet fuck, what happened to dignity?" You're amazed that people can treat other human beings with such inhumanity, all in the name of something as silly as cartoons. You rail against it when more and more laws are passed to "protect" Otaku from filthy Gaijin who want to destroy their values. I know, you don't give a shit about anime qua anime. It's fine as its own thing. Some people enjoy it, and good for them. But you can't say you don't like it, because then you can be denied service, you'll be called hateful and rude and mean spirited and all sorts of other mean, nasty things. You won't be able to rise in your career, or fulfill your dreams of making your city a better place - all because anime.

And the more you ask them to stop forcing it on you, the more you're rubbing your Gaijin beliefs in their face and attacking their values.
